Nurturing a passion for Language Learning

The Isbourne Language Network will work with schools to explore and implement effective Language pedagogy, building on the recommendations of the 2016 MFL Pedagogy Review. This will aid students to gain systemic knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and phonics whilst engaging learners and giving them confidence to pursue a language.

Building capacity through system leadership

Working alongside middle and senior leaders, the Isbourne Language Hub will support schools to explore their current language provision, developing a whole-school culture which values all language learning.

Our hub

The Isbourne Language Network works with schools across the South West and our name is derived from the River Isbourne. The River Isbourne starts as a series of small springs on Cleeve Hill between Pate's (Cheltenham) and Cotswold (Winchcombe). It trickles, flows and spreads wider as a tributary of the Avon and eventually spans Gloucestershire and beyond. Just as the Isbourne is formed from many springs, our networklooks at creating a wide impact as we collaborate with other schools in our area. The hub will generate a flow of ideas extending from the Forest of Dean to West Oxfordshire.

Through support, training and systems leadership, we will promote quality learning of languages, including home, heritage and community languages. Whilst our work will focus on schools in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, there is a national collection of Language Networks and schools outside our area. Find you local network here.

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”
